Diego graduated with a bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 2001 from the Universidad del Valle Cali Colombia. Diego began his career in the sugar mill factories of Colombia providing maintenance services with Monres Ltda. He was responsible for the technical execution of maintenance projects, steel fabrication of tanks and pipes and onsite installations.

In 2003, Diego’s interest in design and research took him to Cenicaña, the Colombia Sugar Cane Centre. At Cenicaña, Diego was responsible for the assessment and improvement of sugar cane preparation and milling processes. His projects included the research and redesign of welding procedures for sugar cane shredder hammers, energy optimisation for preparation and milling equipment, failure analysis and 3D modelling and simulation using Finite Element Analysis FEA. Diego published national and international technical papers from his research at Cenicaña.

 In 2004 Diego achieved his national registration as Professional Engineer from the Consejo Profesional Nacional de Ingenierías Eléctrica, Mecánica y Profesiones Afines - Colombia.

In 2006 Diego moved to Australia to study English and complete a Diploma of Business Management.

In 2008 Diego became a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia in the Mechanical College.

From 2008 until 2010, Diego was employed as a Mechanical Engineer for Stainless Tube Mills Australia and was responsible for the design and fabrication of the forming station, tooling design, strip guide and driven turk heads for the laser welded tube mill.

In 2010 Diego moved to Protube Pty Ltd. At Protube Diego had two different roles: firstly, he held the role of Developing Engineer and secondly Sales Engineer. At Protube Diego was responsible for 3D CAD Design and modeling of special purpose machine solutions using Autodesk^® Inventor^® Professional, providing technical support to customers, and conducting business development and marketing of steel processing equipment, bevelling and chamfering machines and coolants and lubricants.

In 2012 Diego achieved the Chartered Status from Engineers Australia CPEng, and the engineering registrations as National Professional Engineer Register, NPER, and Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland, RPEQ.

In 2013 Diego started his own design engineering business called D.R. Engineering Solutions Pty Ltd. At D.R. Engineering Solutions, Diego has the positions of Director / Engineering Manager and he is responsible for all the company operations including running the engineering services (mechanical design, CAD and project management), company administration, marketing and business development.
